About Penneshaw

Vogue magazine voted Kangaroo Island the best food region in Australia (or what ever the correct wording for the award was) . Imagine being in the serenity of your own self contained home, relaxing with a glass of locally produced wine, a delightful platter of Island produce, watching dolphins frolicking in the Penneshaw Bay, penguins waddling ashore at night and wallabies grazing on the front lawn.

Golf, tennis, fishing and walking are all easily enjoyed at Penneshaw. Baudin Conservation Park is home to many, many wallabies plus echidnas, goannas and the rare Glossy Black cockatoo. The headland at Christmas Cove hosts a colony of cormorants.

The Maritime and Folk Museum is worth a visit to get a feeling for the unique history of the area. Follow the waves of settlement from the sealers of 1820’s to official settlement in 1836, the Agriculturalists of the 1860’s, the rush of development after Federation, the difficult depression and war years etc.
